SAU Middle School Dance

Hello TCS Middle School Families,

We are reaching out to share some helpful information and guidelines for middle school dances held throughout SAU48 during the school year. We hope you find it helpful. As always, please reach out to your child’s teacher or to the main office should you have questions regarding an upcoming dance or other school-sponsored event. 

1. There are 11 scheduled SAU dances during the school year. They can be found on our school website at https://tcs.pemibaker.org/activities. Students who plan to attend an upcoming dance will add their name to a sign-up sheet that is distributed in the middle school wing during the week prior to a dance. Their name and a parent's phone number will be given to the hosting school should a parent need to be contacted during the dance.

2. All SAU dances are held from 6:30 - 8:30 pm. Students should not be arriving early and should be picked up promptly after a dance. * Be prepared to wait in line at many of the schools.

3. Each hosting school sets the price of admission, and that amount is listed on the sign-up sheet and on the school’s flier, which is typically posted on each school’s website. The cost for all SAU 48 dances will be $8 per student for 2026-27.

4. SAU dances also sell refreshments, and proceeds are used to help fund the 8th-grade class trip at each school.

5. Students in grades 6-8 attending SAU 48 elementary schools (plus Ashland Elementary) are invited to attend SAU 48 dances. Students from Linwood are also permitted to attend provided that they have contacted the Principal of the hosting school to ask permission and share emergency contact information for each student attending.

6.  Cell phones are not permitted to be used during dances. If a student needs to call home, they should ask a chaperone about doing so. They may use the school phone to make a call. All SAU 48 schools will collect phones at the main entrance. They will be kept in a safe, locked location to be picked up upon leaving the dance.

7. School-appropriate dress and behavior are expected at all SAU dances. If a student(s) is not following expectations, a parent will be called to pick them up. Students involved in behavior incidents are not permitted to attend the next SAU dance(s). As dances are school-sponsored events, consequences including up to out-of-school suspensions and possible police notification may result, if necessary. The Principal of a sending school will be notified about any behavior incidents from that school’s students, and the Principal will reach out to those students’ parents upon being made aware.

Other expectations to follow:

• No running

• At TCS, all food/drinks should be kept in the cafeteria. Students are expected to be responsible with food and drinks at all school dances. 

• No leaving the building. If being picked up early, students are to wait inside the front entrance where there will be chaperone supervision.

8. Students who are absent from school on the day of a dance are not permitted to attend. TCS will remove their name from the sign-up sheet before sending it to the hosting school.

We want students to enjoy school dances together with their friends in a safe and welcoming environment. Please talk with your child about expected behaviors and ask them to speak with a chaperone if they see or experience any issues during a dance.
